VitaShell by developer TheFloW is essentially a household name in the PS Vita Homebrew world. The graphical shell tool for the PS Vita and PSTV is one of the most popular homebrew utilities out there. And it just received an update.

Update 1.75 to this essential homebrew utility, which is considered virtually indispensable for anyone with a PS Vita running HENkaku, fixes a series of lingering bugs relating both to features added in the last update and general stability issues. Some of the more significant changes include:

  • Fixed bug which caused the memory card to unmount after closing a USB transfer session, causing a corrupt file error message to appear.
  • Fixed issues with QR reader functionality that caused the majority of QR code links to break.
  • Removed the need for Download Enabler in order to download a file from a QR code link. Downloads from QR code links are saved in the ux0:download/ directory.

VitaShell is an essential tool for file management of your PS Vita and packs a host of additional functionality such as starting an FTP server to transfer files to and from a computer, viewing images, text files, SFO files and playing music, downloading VPKs directly via QR codes and much, much more.

An older version of VitaShell

Updating to version 1.75 is a simple process – if you're connected to WiFi you should receive an automatic update prompt to install the latest version. If not, you can download the latest version from here and install the VPK to your PS Vita or PSTV.

If you experience any issues with the app, they can easily be reported on GitHub, making the experience much easier for developers wishing to quickly survey bugs and errors. Please note that issues related to the QR Code Reader should be directed towards cxziaho, the developer behind that specific feature.

What do you guys think? Do you use VitaShell already? Are you hyped for the return of the QR code scanner? Let us know what you think in the comments, or post over in the forums with your thoughts.
