After a long dry spell on MIUI, Xposed has returned in the form of an unofficial build running MIUI 9.

Xiaomi's heavily skinned version of Android has traditionally been a tough nut to crack in terms of rooting and modifying, and nowhere else does this hold truer than with regards to Xposed. Xposed has historically not worked on MIUI, and has required separate, community-made flashable zip files to function. This is no longer the case with the latest version of Xposed, however, as developer Psy_Man has ported the recently released Xposed v88.1 for Android 7.0 and 7.1 Nougat to MIUI 9.

It is worth noting that the same feature set available to users on other devices (namely AOSP devices) may not be available to users running this unofficial fork for MIUI. This is as individual tweaks are developed with AOSP in mind, and manufacturer-level modifications to the Android system and user interface (via their skins) will more than likely interfere with the functions of Xposed modules. An example of this pointed out by XDA was the recently updated GravityBox, which required independent optimisation for Xposed v88. The UI tweaks and modifications it offers would likely not function well with MIUI and cause crashes and stability issues, hence why they will not work.

Additionally, users of this unofficial fork should not expect the same level of polish and stability which you receive on official Xposed installations; this is unofficial, untested software and bugs are likely to be present. Download at your own risk.

The available download is separate, depending on whether you are on Android 7.0 or Android 7.1; likely due to the slight device-security related changes between Android versions, and the modifications that had to be made to allow Xposed to function properly on MIUI. What do you guys think? Are you going to try this out on your Xiaomi device? Let us know in the comments, or post over in the forums with your thoughts.
