TypeStatus is a tweak by the developer team HASHBANG Productions. It has a long history in the community, going back as far as iOS 5. Its primary feature is to display an indicator over your Status Bar when someone is typing a message to you in the Messages app.

This can be super useful when actively trying to keep in touch with someone through iMessage. Originally conceived by Jeff Benjamin when he was at iDownloadBlog, it has enjoyed a lot of notoriety in the community.

It has been updated to version 2.3, with the added ability to globally disable sending typing notifications, among some other fixes and improvements.

There are still a lot of users reporting the same bugs, in particular, one where the typing/read indicators get stuck in the Status Bar for a time. Unfortunately, the main developer is unable to focus his attention on this at the moment so the fix for that will have to wait. This is the case with a lot of developers within the community. They are people too, and often revenue earned from Cydia tweaks isn't enough to keep the lights on and food on the table.

It is indeed a great sign that they're releasing updates, as dismayed as some people get with the bugs. At least they haven't let it slip into abandonware territory.

Here is the full change log:

 • Adds the ability to globally disable sending typing notifications. This is the default setting TypeStatus will use when you haven't explicitly configured this on a contact.
 • Changes the recommended status bar support package to libstatus9 on iOS 9.1+.
 • The issue causing a freeze when opening apps inside folders with Classic Folders installed has been fixed in Classic Folders 2.
 • Updates various translations.

TypeStatus 2 is free on the BigBoss repository. You may also want to check out the TypeStatus website as well. There you can find TypeStatus Plus, and TypeStatus for Mac if that's your 'type' of thing.
