Back in the early days of jailbreaking, it seemed like there were tweaks for just about every facet of iOS. As time has progressed, it's rare to see these classics in the wild anymore. A new jailbreak tweak called Signal, by iOS developer Sniper_GER, is bringing some retro nostalgia to Cydia.
Signal allows users to spoof their status bar's cellular information whether the device has a connection or not. The tool also can customize the carrier name, another classic.
After installing the tweak, visit the Signal preference pane in the Settings application to configure any of the following:
Activate the tweak
Fake a cellular connection
Simulate a cellular connection when connected to Wi-Fi
Select the fake connection you want to display (LTE, 4G, 3G, Edge, GPRS, 1x, etc.)
Override your indicator while connected
Override your indicator while disconnected
Display a custom carrier text in the Status Bar
Customize cellular signal strength (1-5 dots)
There is a respring button below the toggle switch to save settings after configuration.
Signal can trick your friends into thinking an iPod touch or Wi-Fi iPad has a cellular connection, or you can appear to have a stronger connection on your iPhone than you really do. The Signal tweak is limited to its cosmetic appeal and won't actually provide a cellular connection.
If interested in installing, it's available as a free download from Cydia's BigBoss repository and works on all jailbroken iOS 10 devices. The source code can be found on GitHub.
