HMD has been very proactive about keeping their Nokia device updates on the move, and ensuring the Android experience is smooth. They began beta testing Android Oreo 8.0 in October of last year, following the official update not long after. Now after seeing Android Oreo 8.1 on Google's devices for a few months, HMD is pushing an 8.1 beta for the Nokia 8. Nokia's Chief Product Officer announced the 8.1 beta for the Nokia 8 via Twitter and said it would include a "host of new features":
Be our guest as we serve #AndroidOreo 8.1 beta for #Nokia8 . Updating your device today will enable a host of new features. And most importantly - the hamburger emoji fix with cheese now on top of the patty! To join the beta, just visit the Nokia Beta Labs and sign-up for the 8.1 beta. It can take some time for the update to dispatch to individual devices, so be aware of this if you want to try the beta.
The official changelog that displays when updating to the 8.1 beta:
- Battery Saving Navigation Buttons
- Revamped Power Menu
- New Setting Menu
- Bluetooth Battery Percentage
The update screen also advises users to backup data before downloading the beta build, as these builds can be unstable and cause potential data loss. Downgrading is also a possibility should you decide you don't want the beta, but you will lose all data on a downgrade. Because of this be very cautious in upgrading, and be absolutely sure to make a full backup of your phone beforehand.
