Moment has announced its intentions to venture into the world of smartphone filmmaking with their launch of a series of new products. The company, best known for their acclaimed smartphone photography lenses, made the announcement of the launch of these new products on Tuesday via Kickstarter.
The lineup most notably includes a $149 anamorphic smartphone lens, which will allow users to capture video footage from their smartphones in the iconic 2.40:1 aspect ratio. This lens also produces the iconic horizontal lens flare look of blockbuster movie fame. Moment accomplishes this using a 1.33x lens, which Moment describes as being "like shooting a wider focal length in the horizontal direction and a longer focal length in the vertical", allowing for the shallow depth of field of a telephoto lens, but with a wide-angle image.
The product lineup also includes a filter mount that allows for any standard 62mm filter to be used with Moment lenses, alongside an iPhone X battery case and a gimbal counterweight designed for use with the anamorphic lens. The counterweight, which is modular (allowing for different weights to be used and configured) should work with popular gimbals like the DJI Osmo Mobile 1 and 2, Zhiyun Smooth Q, and those from EVO SHIFT.
The lens, counterweight and other items are currently live on Kickstarter, and have far surpassed their $50000 fundraising goal (they've raised over $1 Million USD with 18 days to go). However, if you get on their Kickstarter page fast enough, you can still snag the anamorphic lens for a discounted $99 as well as getting sizeable discounts on the rest of this new lineup.
