The LineageOS recorder app, which allows for users to record the contents of their screen and record sound, is recieving a long-awaited makeover. The redesign comes after years of clamoring from users and widespread dissatisfaction regarding the first redesign from the Lineage team. Now, the app has recieved a material design makeover, with an easy to use UI that requires no explaining for users whatsoever.
Historically, a lot of people have been a fan of the recorder app on LineageOS. Back before Lineage took over the CyanogenMod project, Cyanogen's ancient recorder app was well-hated within the Android enthusiast community. It utilised an ancient AOSP application that still used a dated, Android Gingerbread UI, and users had long been clamouring for an update. However, the first redesign that the Lineage team piloted after the death of Cyanogen was not well recieved according to their Summer survey. Now, they have created a new app that will be available with LineageOS 14.1 and LineageOS 15.
Notably, there is no way to view an entire list of recordings that you've previously made– that must be done through your native music or video app of choice. The redesigned Recorder will list the latest recording at the bottom of each section, but that is about it. While this may dissuade specific users, it makes sense and we don't see users being concerned about it. Overall this redesign seems a welcome change from the previous, aged application and we're happy to see well-made, polished and modern elements coming to even community-based Android ROMs. You can find out more from their blog post.
