HMD Global released a stable version of Android Oreo for the Nokia 8 last month. The company stated its lower-tier lineup of the Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 would soon receive Oreo as well. This past week, they made good on half of that promise by adding the Nokia 5 to the company's Android 8.0 beta program.
Users will be able to install an early version of Android Oreo on their device by visiting Nokia.com and providing their IMEI number and mobile provider details. Once enrolled, the beta build will be sent via an OTA update. There is a default Feedback application for users to provide information relating to experience and performance.
Nokia 5 owners can expect to see all of the standard Android Oreo features like picture-in-picture mode, notification dots, Autofill Framework and faster boot times. The beta build also includes the December security patch which fixes the Wi-Fi KRACK exploit.
For Nokia 6 owners wondering when they will be able to enroll in the Nokia Beta Labs program, HMD's Global Chief Product Officer Juho Sarikas tweeted that the Oreo beta for the Nokia 6 is "coming soon."
It took about three weeks for the beta build to come to the Nokia 5, so hopefully, Nokia 6 users will see the Oreo beta in January of 2018 at the latest.
